About Emory & Henry College
Chris Barker
Chris Barker

Class of 1991
B.S., Business Administration
Director of Operations, Seabrook Island Resort, SC; Managing Member, Guidant Management Group, VA

Chris Barker learned of Emory & Henry first hand, and at a young age. "As a child, my parents would take me to see the 'Waspers' play. There was no way I wasn't finding out about Emory & Henry. My mother, father, brother, sister, brother-in-law, and cousins all went to school here and were all very involved with the college. They may love it almost as much as I do!" When it came time for him to choose a college, however, Chris didn't select E & H solely because of his family heritage. "I attended Emory & Henry because it felt right at the time."

Chris began his college career at Virginia Tech on a baseball scholarship. "After two years there, I really began to realize that I was missing out on the 'uncommon' college experience." He transferred to Emory & Henry, "and in two weeks I had more friends than I had had at Tech in two years!" He quickly became very active on the Emory & Henry campus as a football and baseball player, a member of Phi Gamma Phi fraternity, and a tutor.

Chris's time at Emory & Henry has made a lasting impression in more ways than one. To this day, he keeps the "14 points" that his business professor taught him in his Emory & Henry day planner, and he credits the expertise of his professors with much of his present-day success as Director of Operations at Seabrook Resort and a managing member of Guidant Management Group. He returns, with many other dedicated E & H alumni, for Homecoming each year, and he remains in close contact with his fraternity brothers. To quote Chris, "The involvement never ends."
