Rosalind Reichard has announced her retirement as our President, effective June
30,2013. As I noted in the College's public announcement of her departure last month,
Roz has led a transformation of the College's curriculum, its facilities and, indeed, its
culture. She has helped build a strong board of trustees that is prepared to meet its
greatest challenge as the future unfolds: the election of a new president.
The announcement of Roz's departure signals a call for the Board to begin the
process of searching for a new president. As board chair, I have appointed a Presidential
Search Committee so that new leadership can be in place and ready to lead us forward on
July 1,2013.
A member of the board of trustees' executive committee, Donna Proffit Vaughn, '68, of Eagle Rock, Virginia, will chair the Presidential Search Committee. Other trustees serving on the search committee include the following: Kyra Kegley Bishop, '77, of Chilhowie, Virginia; John Eldridge, '70, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jane Hicks Harter, '73, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Rick Hughes, '76, of Charlotte, North Carolina; William Pendleton, '72, of Atlanta, Georgia; Fielding Rolston of Kingsport, Tennessee; and Ann Sparger, '68, of Salem, Virginia. Former board chair Tom McGlothlin, '68, of Bristol, Tennessee has also agreed to serve. Dr. Joe Reiff of the Religion Department and Dr. Christie Fleet of the Biology Department will serve as faculty representatives, while Jimmy Whited, Director of Housing and former staff representative to the board, will serve as staff representative. Junior Kyle Boden, of Knoxville, Tennessee will serve as a student representative.
A search consultant will be named soon and will assist the committee with its
work. The Search Committee anticipates a thorough, national search to find that perfect
person to lead the College forward.
We have much work to do. No responsibility of the Board is more important than
the election of a President. So please stay tuned.
Sincerely,
John E. Eldridge, Chair
Board of Trustees
