While I was studying abroad recently in France, I was surprised at the amount of information people knew about the culture, politics and society of The United States. I came to understand that much of that understanding was a result of their learning and knowing our native language. So I began to think about how language study in this country could help shape Americans’ understanding of foreign policy issues, and with the encouragement of some great professors, I am researching this topic. I love languages, but I also love people and other cultures. Thanks to Emory & Henry, I am excited about one day working in some capacity that helps build cultural connections, perhaps with the Foreign Service or with an international non-government organization.Kaitlyn McNabney
