Meet faculty

Computer Information Management prepares students for employment or graduate study related to computer information management, emphasizing the ways in which computers and programs can be used as tools for solving problems in business, management, and other areas.

Academic Program
The Emory & Henry Computer Science Program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the conceptual underpinnings of computer science and the ways in which these fundamental concepts can be applied to solve real-world problems and to emphasize knowledge of computer concepts and the mathematical basis of computer science. Graduates will be prepared for a career in the computer industry and/or for graduate studies in computer science.
Traditional classroom instruction is combined with technology and a cooperative learning environment to maximize your talents. In our increasingly information-based society, you need significant quantitative ability. Such ability will be the gateway to productive employment and effective decision-making citizenship. At Emory & Henry, we encourage you to learn computer science by doing. Instructors work with groups and individuals, ask questions, offer guidance, and help students solve problems.

Degree Program
In the computer science program, you may choose to complete a B.S. in computer science.
The computer science program prepares you for employment or graduate study related to computer information management. Emphasis is placed on use of computers and programs as tools for solving problems in business, management, and other areas. This degree is completed with a minor in another discipline.

Special Opportunities
Computer science is taught in the departmental Linux lab which houses 15 Red Hat ® workstations reserved for exclusive use by mathematics and computer science students.

Internship Opportunities

Internships have been completed with the Washington County Public Schools, the Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Smyth County Community Hospital, the Roanoke City Commissioner of Revenue, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and Havers Computer Services. Independent studies have been conducted in cryptology, coding theory, chaos theory, topology, complex analysis, JAVA programming, and advanced data structures.
