Dr. Michael Duffy

Degrees: Ph.D., B.S., Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Duffy has taught physics and computer science for nearly two decades, both here at Emory & Henry and at Vassar College. His thesis research was in theoretical solid state physics (how the vibrations of crystal lattices depend on temperature). His current research is in astrophysics (the size and structure of the universe). His primary interest is in finding ways to help students come to grips with the act of learning so they too can see the wonder and beauty of the universe.




Dr. Ambrose Leong

Dr. Leong's professional interests include organic synthetic methods, molecular modeling and industry consulting. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.




Dr. Melissa Taverner

Degrees: Ph.D., University of Virginia; M.S., University of Reading in England; B.A., Randolph-Macon Woman's College

Dr. Taverner focuses her research on the gypsy moth, a major insect pest of deciduos forests in the eastern United States, and the pawpaw tree, a common understory tree found in the southeastern United States. Her other interests include microbiology, population biology, and environmental studies. In 1996 and 2002, she was honored with the college's Excellence in Teaching Award.




Gregory McConnell

Degrees: M.S., B.A., East Tennessee State University

A native of Southwest Virginia, Professor McConnell's interests include herpetology (salamanders and snakes) and tropical biology. Each spring, McConnell offers a field biology course to Costa Rica.
