PANCE Scores & Other Program-Specific Outcomes


Upon successful completion of the Program, graduates are eligible to sit for their national board examination in pursuit of national certification and subsequent state licensure. When available, First-Time Test Taker PANCE results,

with comparisons to national averages, will be published on this page.

When available, additional outcome measure results, such as the results from student, faculty and preceptor surveys and graduate and employer surveys will also be published

How We Determine Student Success in Meeting Our Mission, Goals, & Learning Outcomes

Below is a listing of benchamarks that we will use to to assist us in determining how our Program Mission, Goals and Learning Outcomes are being met by our students. As we want to have our students contributing to the formation of the benchmarks, the following is subject to change. Benchmarks are reevaluated for appropriateness and effectiveness at our annual faculty retreat.

  • Program Goal 1 (Provide resources to support students in adapting to and managing the rigors inherent to PA education): Score of 4 or 5 on Student Annual Evaluation of Program and Student Exit Survey items pertaining to Goal.
  • Program Goal 2 (Provide a curriculum and experience promoting mastery of the skills and behaviors as an entry level Physician Assistant): Successful completion of Program summative exams with a 80% or higher score by 80% or greater number of cohort students; and, successful completion of PANCE by equal or great number of cohort students to national average.
  • Program Goal 3 (Foster a collaborative approach to work effectively in interdisciplinary patient-centered health care teams): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student and 1, 3, and 5 year Employer Survey items pertaining to team-based care  by 98% or greater number of cohort students (or, in the case of employer survey, by 98% or greater number of returned surveys).
  • Program Goal 4 (Foster mindfulness based practices): 100% of matriculated students complete mindfulness journaling project in Didactic phase of training).
  • Program Goal 5 (Promote and support student and faculty civic engagement opportunities): 80% of students participate in service projects (e.g.  RAM Smyth County, MLFC volunteering, Project Crossroads volunteering) during the program; 100% of faculty participate in service projects  (e.g.  RAM Smyth County, MLFC volunteering, Project Crossroads volunteering) at least once every other year.
  • Program Goal 6 (Encourage and support student and faculty professional activities promoting the PA profession): 50% of matriculated and graduated students participate in professional activities promoting the PA profession (e.g. white coats on call, community presentations, CME presentations, publishing articles or text material); 100% of faculty participate in service professional activities promoting the PA profession projects at least once every other year.
  • Program Learning Outcome 1a and 1b (medical knowledge): Successful completion of Program summative exams with a 80% or higher score by 80% or greater number of cohort students; and, successful completion of PANCE by equal or great number of cohort students to national average.
  • Program Learning Outcome 2a and 2b (mindful interpersonal and communication skills): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student and 1, 3, and 5 year Employer Survey Items pertaining to mindful interpersonal and communication skills by 98% or greater number of cohort students (or, in the case of employer survey, by 98% or greater number of returned surveys).
  • Program Learning Outcome 3a (evidence-based, culturally-sensitive patient care): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student items pertaining to ability to provide evidence-based care and ability to provide culturally-sensitive care by 98% or greater number of cohort students; 95% or higher score on Program summative examination questions pertaining to preventative care by 80% or greater number of cohort students; and, successful completion of PANCE by equal or great number of cohort students to national average.
  • Program Learning Outcome 3a (evidence-based, culturally-sensitive patient care): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student items pertaining to ability to provide evidence-based care and ability to provide culturally-sensitive care by 98% or greater number of cohort students.
  • Program Learning Outcome 3b (preventative care): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student items pertaining to ability to provide preventative care by 98% or greater number of cohort students; 95% or higher score on Program summative examination questions pertaining to preventative care by 80% or greater number of cohort students.and, successful completion of PANCE by equal or great number of cohort students to national average.
  • Program Learning Outcome 4a (professionalism in actions): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student and 1, 3, and 5 year Employer Survey items pertaining to professionalism by 98% or greater number of cohort students (or, in the case of employer survey, by 98% or greater number of returned surveys).
  • Program Learning Outcome 4b (ethical and professional standards of PA profession): 95% or higher score on Program summative examination questions pertaining to ethical and professional standards by 80% or greater number of cohort students.
  • Program Learning Outcome 4c (knowledge of legal/regulatory Requirements): 95% or higher score on Program summative examination questions pertaining to legal/regulatory requirement by 80% or greater number of cohort students.
  • Program Learning Outcome 4d (ability to recognize one's own limitations): Score of 4 or 5 on all Preceptor Evaluation of SCPE Student items pertaining to professionalism by 98% or greater number of cohort students.
  • Program Learning Outcome 5a (practice  based learning and improvement): Successful completion of Research Project contributing to practice based improvement by 80% or greater number of cohort students.
  • Program Learning Outcomes 6a-6e (systems based practice): 80% or higher score on program summative examination questions pertaining to system based practice by 80% or greater number of cohort students.
