About the MLFC & Emory & Henry College
The strong collaboration and joint mission of the Mel Leaman Free Clinic and Emory & Henry College represents an amazing opportunity as both a true civic engagement mission, improving access to high quality, compassionate, patient-centered care to underserved patients in Southwest Virginia, and remarkable interprofessnal training opportunities for our health science students.
Complementing the great staff and volunteers of the MLFC, faculty from the School of Health Sciences Department of Physician Assistant Studies, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Occupational Therapy programs will be volunteering their time to provide clinical services to the patients of the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College. In addition to the above services, through a collaboration with Wytheville Community College's Dental Hygiene program, faculty from that program will also be providing regular dental hygiene services for patients at our facility.
Services provided by the MLFC at Emory & Henry College will include:
Primary Medical Care
Women's Health Care
Behavioral Medicine/Psychiatric Care
Referral for other Specialty Services
All together, the multiple staff, volunteers, and volunteer providers and their highly comprehensive services represent a unique collection of health care opportunities for some of the most underserved residents of the region, providing multiple primary and specialty care services right within our campus building. To our knowledge, the level of services is beyond what other free clinics in the Nation are able to offer. Just another example of how Emory & Henry College and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic set and implement higher goals to live a mission of service towards Appalachian residents.
The Mel Leaman Free Clinic, now known as the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College, is located right on the School of Health Sciences Campus in Marion, VA, and directly across from the main campus building.
