The Department of Business Administration offers students four B.S. degrees: Accounting, Management, International Studies and Business and Business Teacher Preparation.
The B.S. in Management offers a broad-based background in business administration leading to employment or graduate study. The curriculum includes accounting, finance, marketing, management, operations, information systems, and commercial law. Advanced course offerings include international business, leadership, personal financial management, and management strategy.
The B.S. in Accounting degree prepares students for employment in industry, public accounting as well as the governmental and non-profit sector. This program also prepares students for graduate study in business or accounting. The accounting major offers all the accounting courses required to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam in Virginia and will continue to do so.
In addition to the above degree programs, you also may choose studies to complete a minor or an interdisciplinary program such as International Studies. You also will take courses in quantitative methods and a general studies core of courses.
Emory & Henry’s modern library provides easy access to virtually any material you may need for courses or research. Electronic networking to other regional libraries and Internet connections enable communications around the world. Several computer laboratories are available to students.
In the department’s courses, students will find a variety of learning experiences ranging from computerized problem-solving to competitive simulation games and case studies. Many students also gain experience through internships in management or accounting with industry and government employers. Students also may participate in the Phi Beta Lambda and Students In Free Enterprise chapters. The E&H SIFE chapter was a regional winner in 2010 and competed in the national competition.
Your professors will be happy to discuss your plans for graduate study and career opportunities with you. Our campus office for Academic Support and Career Services will assist you as well. The many services of this office include workshops on writing resumes, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. They also maintain placement files for students and alumni.
