An Oral History of Konnarock, Virginia

Title: An Oral History of Konnarock, Virginia.
Authors: William B. Gable and Edward H. Davis
Publisher: Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy
 Place: Charlottesville, VA
 Date: 1997

In 1995 and 1996 lengthy interviews were recorded with 27 residents of Konnarock, Virginia, under sponsorship of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy, which allowed us to edit these interviews and publish them in a book.  The foundation also paid for copies of the book to be sent to every interviewee, every household in Konnarock, and several libraries around Southwest Virginia.   Unfortunately, copies of the book have since then been hard to come by.

Most of those interviewed were old enough to remember life in Konnarock before 1935, and in the 13 years or so since we made those interviews, many of the people have passed away.  The biographical information about these interviewees – at the time of publication, is given in Chapter 1 of the book.

The taped interviews were transcribed and then studied for patterns and finally arranged into thematic chapters.  Not all of the good material we gathered could fit in the book, because funds for printing were limited.  We are pleased, therefore, to have the Kelly Library of Emory & Henry College now make public the original transcripts of those interviews.
