In 1926, the distinguished African American historian, Carter G. Woodson established Negro History Week to celebrate the contributions and achievements of African Americans. This event was expanded in 1976 to a month to include the birthdays of Frederick Douglass, Feb. 14, 1817, and Abraham Lincoln, Feb. 12, 1809. Many events are planned to help bring recognition to the people who have done much to bring civil rights to the forefront and made great contributions to the world.
