Library 101: Spotlight on New Materials

This week we are excited to spotlight some acquisitions that are now available to our patrons.

The databases support not only the Religion and Physical Therapy folks, but have a broader appeal to other disciplines as well.   

Everyone will probably be too busy to do much leisurely reading as those final projects and papers start to overwhelm them, but the Library has a few newer things to read, and watch, that might provide some relaxation and diversion.  Be sure to check the library catalog under the link New and Featured Items to see our complete lists of new titles and complete lists of CDs and DVDs.



Oxford Biblical Studies Online: This database for the study of the Bible and biblical history includes online reference works, multiple Bible translations with commentary and annotations, and a biblical timeline. You can read a passage of the Bible alongside scholarly analysis of the text, as well as compare and contrast two translations of the Bible, line by line.

The Cochrane Library: A collection of databases in medicine and other healthcare specialties. It includes Cochrane Reviews, which summarize and interpret the results of medical research. The Cochrane Library aims to make the results of well-conducted controlled trials readily available and is a key resource in evidence-based medicine.


The Art of Pixar: The Complete Colorscripts and Select Art from 25 years of Animation (New Books - NC1766 .U52 P5832 2011) This book collects 25 years of Pixar movie colorscripts, a combination color pallete/storyboard that the company popularized.

Dark Invasion: 1915: Germany's Secret War and the Hunt for the First Terrorist Cell in America (New Books - D619.3 .B58 2014)  The true story of German espionage and terror on American soil during World War I and the NYPD Inspector who helped uncover the plot.

Exploring Southern Appalachian Forests: An Ecological Guide to 30 Great Hikes in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia (New Books - GV199.42 .A68 J45 2014)   These thirty popular hikes in range from short walks along Blue Ridge Parkway pull-offs to longer day trips in the region's backcountry. The section for each hike lists distance, difficulty, and GPS coordinates, as well as a narrative description, including the unique natural features waiting to be discovered.

Ms. Marvel (Graphic Novels - PN6728 .M766 W55 2014 v.1)   Kamala Khan, a sixteen year old Muslim American living in New Jersey, deals with her extraordinary new powers.


Boyhood (DVD - PN1997 .B68993 2014) This Golden Globe winner (and Oscar nominee) for best picture was filmed over a twelve year period, incorporating personal experiences of the major cast members as each new segment was filmed.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season (DVD - PN1997 .G354 2015) Catch up on the previous season of this award winning fantasy series before the fifth season begins April 12th.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (DVD - PN1997 .G682 2014) Another Oscar nominee for Best Picture (and Golden Globe winner for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy), this Wes Anderson film follows the adventures of a legendary concierge at a famous hotel in the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the first and second World Wars,
