The School of Health Sciences (SHS) at Emory & Henry College was launched in 2014 with the goal of preparing compassionate, patient-centered, highly-skilled health care professionals who not only provide quality healthcare to their patients, but also actively engage in leadership and service opportunities within their professional organizations and communities.
The School of Health Sciences includes two undergraduate departments and three graduate departments.
The two undergraduate programs are housed on the College's main campus in Emory, Virginia and include Athletic Training and Pre-Health Studies.
The three graduate programs are housed on the new 15-acre School of Health Sciences campus in Marion, Virginia, just 20 miles north of the Emory campus, and include the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Occupational Therapy, and Master of Physician Assistant Studies programs.

The mission of the Athletic Training Department at Emory & Henry College is to prepare students for entry-level careers or advanced study by educating them in the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behaviors needed to successfully practice as an athletic training professional. We strive to provide students with a comprehensive liberal arts education in order to develop critical thinking and promote civic engagement. The curriculum design is guided by the Educational Competencies and Clinical Proficiencies identified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Education Council. The Methodist principles on which the College was founded, along with the NATA Code of Ethics, is the basis upon which our students strive to uphold the college motto, “Increase in Excellence!”
Health care providers are some of the most sought after professionals in today’s society. With its emphasis on the liberal arts and rigorous scientific training, Emory & Henry College has earned a strong reputation for offering excellent preparation for students pursuing careers in the health sciences. While majors in fields such as biology and chemistry are excellent choices for those interested in many of the health care fields, students are able to complete majors in any of the college’s disciplines in route to becoming health care professionals.
