Emory Abroad Scholars

Read what it is like for our students to spend time abroad.  There is no better way to understand the life changing experience of spending time in another country than to see what other students, like you, have to say about it.

Ireland is amazing there are so many places to see and people to meet, I definitely recommend studying abroad to everyone! Irish Toast: "May you be in Heaven 40 years before the devil even knows you're dead."

Beijing, China
Gilman Scholarship, 2009; National Science Foundation Grant, 2010

My study abroad experience in China changed my perspective on not only the material that I had been studying in the classroom but also my general outlook on the world and the cultures that comprise it.  The time I spent in China will definitely be something that not only defines me and my current academic goals but will also be something that helps to shape my future.

My time in Ecuador was a time of great personal growth both intellectually and personally with all of the amazing relationships I built. This is something that has forever changed the way I view the world and hopefully will carry with me in my future endeavors.

London, England
Emily Williams Scholarship, 2010

My trip to London was as eye-opening as it was exciting and fast paced.  Every day I learned something new, both about what it means to live globally, and more importantly, about myself and what I am capable of on my own.  From the world-renowned shows on  Victoria St. and the historic and beautiful Windsor Castle to the always bustling nightlife and the amazing food in the Arab quarter, I will never forget this summer!

Glasgow, Scotland
Emily Williams Scholarship, 2010

While at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama I had trumpet lessons with excellent performers, two of whom I saw play as principal trumpet in their respective orchestras.  I also had a great time being a part of both brass and orchestral ensembles in concerts at the RSAMD and in Glasgow's City Halls.  Getting to see as much of Glasgow, Edinburgh, and the Highlands in my free time was a nice bonus.
