Our academic requirements include four years of high school English, three units of math (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry), two laboratory science courses, two years of the same foreign language, and two years of social studies or history.

Admission counselors will also evaluate academic performance in high school, including the senior year curriculum, GPA, class rank, and standardized test scores. Strong emphasis is also placed on involvement and leadership in extracurricular and community activities.

To apply for admission to Emory & Henry College, you must complete our international student application. Use the transcript request form (PDF 35K) to request an official high school transcript and test scores from your high school. Specific application procedures are listed below.

The Office of Admissions must receive all necessary information by May 1 for the fall semester that begins mid-August, or by November 1 for the spring semester that begins mid-January.

The following items are required for all applicants:

  1. Complete and submit international student application for admission. Applications can be returned by e-mail (as an attachment) or faxed to 276.944.6935.

  2. Official high school or leaving school transcript(s). These must be translated into English. Send official transcripts of all school work completed beyond the eighth grade year of school - official records for the equivalent of American secondary school grades nine, 10, 11, and 12, and for any college or university work you have completed. Typically, you should request the principal officer of your secondary school and of your college (if you have done college work) to send the official transcripts to the Director of Admissions at Emory & Henry College. To be official, documents must be an original or a certified copy. Copies must be certified after the reproduction has been made.

  3. An official report of your test of English as a foreign language. Emory & Henry recognizes both the traditional paper-based TOEFL test, and the internet-based iBT test. We require a minimum test score of 78/79 on the iBT or a 550 on the paper-based TOELF test. The iBT or TOEFL are waived for students who spend one or more years as an exchange student in an American high school, or whose secondary education included English as a required foreign language.

  4. At least one recommendation by a teacher, headmaster or guidance officer.

  5. A completed Statement of Financial Support or a notarized bank statement showing enough financial support to afford at least the first year of study after any scholarships have been applied (if you qualify).

  6. SAT or ACT scores are not required for international students, but may be submitted to strengthen their admission application. The SAT score CEEB code for Emory & Henry College is 5185.

Once these requirements have been met, your application will be reviewed. If accepted, you will receive e-mail notification of your acceptance, followed by delivery of the official acceptance letter, the I-20 student visa application, along with other information related to your admission and the next steps you must take to secure your seat in the class. An enrollment ($250 USD) and housing deposit ($150 USD) is required for all students.

Scholarships
International students can qualify for academic scholarships, which are determined at the time of admission. The maximum scholarship award for each year of study is $13,500 USD, and can be renewed for up to four years of study provided students maintain good academic standing. Emory & Henry College does not offer full tuition scholarships.  Academic scholarships are awarded to students provided they live in campus residence facilities and subscribe to the College's meal plan (board).

Students, their families or sponsors are expected to provide for at least half of the total cost of attendance, and be able to continue financial support including any required fees, travel expenses, books and supplies, and health insurance.
