Professional Judgment
The U. S. Department of Education gives our office some latitude in considering special circumstances not reflected on the FAFSA. Circumstances that might call for a professional judgment on our part include, but are not limited to:

Loss or reduction of income,
Excessive medical expenses actually paid but not reimbursed by insurance,
Change in family dynamics not shown on tax return, and
Catastrophic loss such as fire, storm, etc.

If you have a circumstance not addressed by the FAFSA, please share the details in writing (email is acceptable) with this office. We will evaluate the situation in order to determine if a professional judgment is possible and advise you of any required documentation. Please remember:

Other schools are not required to accept our judgment nor are we required to accept another institution's judgment;
Respond promptly to any requests for additional information;
Put the student's name on any additional documentation; and
Reapply each year for a continuing situation as updated information is required.
