State Grants
States other than Virginia:
Check with your state's council on higher education to determine whether or not your state offers a state grant program and whether or not that grant can go out of state with you. Some states exporting grants include Alaska, Rhode Island, Michigan (one year only), and Vermont. The Department of Education maintains a contact list for state higher education agencies.
Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)
Emory & Henry College administers the VTAG program for domiciled residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who attend Emory & Henry College. This program is available to students attending certain private colleges in Virginia such as Emory & Henry.
The VTAG is awarded solely on the basis of Virginia residency and applies only towards full-time tuition. Students normally must be domiciled Virginia residents for a minimum of one year to qualify; however, for dependent students residency is based on the residency of their parent(s). Students should apply by July 31 for fall funding. The VTAG application may be downloaded or requested from the CSA Office. Virginia Tuition Assistance Grants will be applied to tuition charges before any Emory & Henry institutional aid is applied.
Award amounts are estimated and subject to change during the academic year by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) based on annual budget levels, number of eligible students statewide during that academic year. Any budget shortfalls that arise at the state level will be passed through to the student. Students should continue to apply between July 31 and December 1, but funding is not guaranteed by the SCHEV.
Students are limited to eight semesters of this award as an undergraduate student. Any student withdrawing before the census date of a term will lose his or her VTAG funding, but retain eligibility for a future term. Any student withdrawing after the census date will receive a prorated amount of VTAG for that term, but loses a semester of eligibility regardless of amount.
Virginia College Scholarship Application Program (VA CSAP)
The Virginia CSAP grant is a need-based grant available to Virginia residents as established by the VTAG application. Those students whose level of need represents at least 75 percent of their cost of attendance budget (direct costs to the College plus other allowances established by the CSA Office), can receive $400 to $1000 per academic year. Funds are extremely limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. CSAP funds are received under Virginia's grant program and are or may be Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grants (LEAP) funded by the federal or state governments and, where applicable, other contributing partners.
Virginia Higher Education Teaching Assistance Program (VA HETAP)
The Virginia HETAP Scholarship is a need-based scholarship available to Virginia residents as established by the VTAG application, who are going into the teaching profession within Virginia. Students must be nominated for funding by a member of the faculty of the education department. The $2,000 scholarship is available for full-time study at the undergraduate or graduate level. HETAP funds are received under Virginia's grant program and are or may be Special Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grants (SLEAP) funded by the federal or state governments and, where applicable, other contributing partners.
Virginia Prepaid Educational Program (VPEP)
Emory & Henry College accepts VPEP funds as a private university. Available funds are usually based on the Virginia public school with the highest tuition rate. Contact your plan's state office for detailed information.
Virginia College Transfer Grant
Virginia residents who began a degree program at a Virginia community college after Fall 2007 and complete an Associate's degree with at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average, may be eligible for the Virginia CTG if they enter a Virginia four-year college or university by the fall term immediately following receipt of their Associate's degree. All eligible students will receive $1,000 from the Commonwealth of Virginia if enrolled full-time in a degree program.
If the student is majoring in science, technology, engineering or math, there may be a second $1,000 of CTG eligibility. Community colleges will note on student transcripts of possible eligibility. Students are eligible for grants for subsequent years, as long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA for up to 70 credits undergraduate study.
