Some familiar names returned to Bob Johnson Court on Jan. 14, with the likes of Terrance Grigg, Andrew Hart, and Cortez Watson taking the court. Paul Russo put aside his coaching hat in order to play ball with the alums, and his last comment before taking hitting the court was, “Got ice?” To be certain, Jay Rosser later admitted to being a little sore, but the big smile on his face took away any concerns of real injury.
The razzing and the cheering on the court were equal in measure, proving that the guys were ready to play, and excited to see each other in such great shape. There was great passing, fluid lay-ups, and well-timed 3-pointers that brought back half the alumni from a 10 point deficit to win the game 72-71.
This first men’s basketball alumni day was punctuated by great stories, sincere hugs, and excitement about seeing old E&H standouts. Justin Call, the 2004 recipient of the Jostens Trophy, which recognizes one male and one female Division III student-athlete each year for outstanding achievement on the court, in the classroom and in service to the community, was on the sidelines at with a shoulder problem, but he seemed right at home being back on Bob Johnson Court in the King Center.
