Alumni Participation Rate: A Matter of Pride

If you ever served as a Phonathon caller while at E&H, chances are you remember the motto for the fund-raising event - Participation, Participation, Participation! For those unfamiliar with the battle cry, it is the basis for annual fund raising at Emory & Henry College. Your gift for any purpose allows you to be counted as an alumni donor. E&H has secured top alumni giving participation percentages nationally for a number of years - many of those years at 50 percent and beyond. Your participation through a gift of any size, for any purpose, allows you to be counted as a donor. E&H believes that your gifts affirm our educational mission.

During the 2006-2007 fiscal year alumni participation rose to 39% to the support of dedicated alumni. This was the first increase in participation rates in seven years - but, we're not done yet! In 2007-2008 we need your help to reach our goal of 42%% alumni participation.

Nearly one-third of the more than 9,500 alumni are classified as young alumni, that is, they have graduated within the past 15 years. Yet only about 20 percent of alumni in this category are making an annual contribution. It's obvious that young alumni hold the key to recapturing and exceeding the 50 percent participation rate. Maintaining a position in the top level for alumni giving has been a matter of pride for E&H alumni for years. It is an accomplishment that other institutions envy. It is also reviewed by U.S. News and World Report for its annual rankings of colleges and universities.

Young alumni, especially, have the opportunity to effect change through participation. However, a gift of $5, $10, or $25 from any alum does make a difference, and the importance of those gifts is easily measured both in total dollars received and in reaching alumni participation goals. In order to be counted as a donor for the current fiscal year, your gift must be received before June 30.
