Byars Hall Renovations

- A $7 million renovation of historic Byars Hall provides additional space for the Division of Visual and Performing Arts, including art studios, exhibition space, and choral and instrumental rehearsal halls. The 24,000 square feet of new space also includes a digital art lab, a large piano lab, a dark room, a theatre support room and numerous seminar rooms and classrooms.
The renovations to the main building, which was built in 1891, enhance both the aesthetics and the history of this stately campus structure. Most notable among them: the restoration of the Calliopean and Hermesian rooms of the former E&H literary societies.
The renovated facility provides a gentle, inspiring transition from its past to its future. The passage from the existing portion of the building opens to a large, three-story atrium just inside the new addition. The light from the atrium spreads throughout the building, adding to a seamless transition from old to new and symbolically reaching out to combine the past with the future.
