Emory & Henry's Theatre Department is for students serious about pursuing a career in the theatre. We offer pre-professional conservatory-style training, embedded in a rigorous small liberal arts school environment.
We offer B.F.A. degrees specializing in Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre and Design & Production. We also offer a traditional B.A. in Theatre, which makes us a diverse department dedicated to the training and education of all theatre artists.
Our small class-sizes mean personal attention and more opportunities for you—on stage and off—unlike the large conservatories or big state schools. Become more than a number and get the personalized education you deserve.
Our unique and dynamic association with the Barter Theatre, the State Theatre of Virginia, means our students get hands-on experience with professional theatre artists throughout their four-year degree.
The Department of Theatre is housed in the recently completed (2015) Woodrow W. McGlothlin Center for the Arts where students study and perform on a 461-seat state of the art proscenium stage and in our new black box theatre. E&H Theatre Students can work on stage and backstage every year, including in their first semester.
