E&H graduates of the visual and performing arts have gone on to top graduate schools and rewarding careers in the arts. Below is a sampling of success stories among some of our most recent graduates.

MUSIC

Will Gibbons (E&H Class of 2003 with a degree in piano accompanying) recently completed his PhD in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is now a Visiting Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of Iowa.

Kate Altizer (E&H Class of 2006 with a degree in piano performance) has completed two Master of Music degrees (in piano performance and music history) from West Virginia University and is currently a Visiting Instructor of Music History at West Virginia University.

Jonathan Ledger (E&H Class of 2006 with a degree church music and biology) has completed a Master of Music degree in choral conducting at Bowling Green State University (OH) and is the choral director at Osbourn High School in Manassas, VA.  He recently had students from his choir selected for the 2010 VMEA Honors Choir.

Caitlyn Murriner (E&H Class of 2008 with a degree in vocal/choral music education) has recently returned from a year teaching ESL in South Korea.   She is now an elementary school music teacher at High Point Elementary in Bristol, VA.

 
VISUAL ARTS

Amber Brown (E&H Class of 2007), is an accomplished graphic artist who works for Coburn Creative out of Glade Spring, Va.

Vaughn Garland (E&H Class of 2000), completed a master of fine arts degree in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University and now works as a curator and teacher in Richmond, Va., where he also works as an independent artist.

Victor Lawson (E&H Class of 2001), art teacher

Mark Wankel (E&H Class of 1997), holds a master of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He teaches art at Carson-Newman College.

THEATRE

Jamal Crowelle (E&H Class of 2010) graduated with a degree in acting and has won numerous acting awards and competitions. He placed as one of the top 16 students in the Southeast during acting KC/ACTF auditions. He is currently employed by the Barter Theatre, the State Theatre of Virginia.

Eileen Casterline (E&H Class of 2010) graduated with a degree in general theatre as Emory & Henry's valedictorian. She has completed an honors thesis called “A Dramaturgical Process for Jean Anouilh’s Antigone.” She is currently at Stony Brook University pursuing a graduate degree in theatre.

Carrie Winship (E&H Class of 2009) graduated with a degree in general theatre and has completed an honors thesis called “Flora, The Red Menace; Cabaret; and Chicago: Essentialism and Feminist Ideology in Broadway Musicals.” She is currently at Indiana University pursuing a graduate degree in theatre.

Eric Eteuati (E&H Class of 2008) won the Irene Ryan acting competition and scholarship award in the Southeast region and was selected to compete against 16 other regional winners of the Irene Ryan Scholarship at the national competition, sponsored by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. After graduating from Emory & Henry with a degree in acting, he has gone on to New York City to work as an actor and stuntman in New York City.

Meghan Kelleher (E&H of 2008) graduated from Emory & Henry with a degree in musical theatre and from Virginia Commonwealth University with an MFA in theatre pedagogy. She is currently working on various artistics projects as well as serving as an adjunct professor in theatre at VCU.
