As a Division III institution, we subscribe to the notion that our athletes are students first and to the belief that the virtues of athletics – a healthy body, team work and the quest for improvement – are important in so far as they enrich your life in areas beyond athletic competition. This philosophy has served us well in the production of quality graduates who once competed for Emory & Henry, cheered on by their professors and other college employees as well as fellow students. As an E&H student athlete you may well join a long list of current and former student athletes whose lives have been changed by the support they received on and off the athletic field from people across this college community.
Emory & Henry athletes are students first. While they pursue their sport with passion, they also engage in a wide spectrum of opportunities that broaden their perspectives and promote their growth. They engage regularly in community service and hold down campus leadership positions while they strive for academic excellence.
Our athletic programs claim a long winning tradition in one of the nation’s toughest conferences, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Two examples: Our football team has won 11 conference championships and draws some of the largest crowds. Our women’s basketball team regularly wins 20 games per season and has had dozens of players selected for all-conference honors.
Our King Health and Physical Education Center features a 2,200-seat gymnasium, a junior Olympic swimming pool, the state-of-the-art Gibson Fitness Center, and two handball courts. Football and soccer teams enjoy competition on the artificial turf of the newly renovated Fred Self Stadium. We're also home to the nine-hole Charles Lynch Golf Links, the only on-campus course in the conference.

Emory & Henry students reinforce their strong bonds to one another through a wide range of intramural and recreational activities. Students enjoy sports such as intramural football, volleyball, basketball and wiffle ball throughout the academic year. In addition, students develop leadership skills as they venture outdoors for hiking, rock climbing and spelunking, to name just a few activities.
On the field and in the classroom our student athletes pursue their goals with passion. If you’d like to play sports at Emory & Henry, use the recruitment form to contact one of our coaches.
