With the completed installation of artificial turf, a new scoreboard and the addition of perimeter fencing, the next step for the Fred Selfe Stadium involves a new field house and numerous upgrades.

Architects are being chosen for the second phase of the project, which will include building a new field house near the east entrance of the stadium with home team and visitor locker rooms, offices, classrooms, a training room and a new press box. Upgrades also will be made to home and visitor seating areas.

The development of the stadium has created a strong sense of pride for several E&H students. “The new facility has given me a greater sense of pride for my school, my teammates and my team,” said football player Brad Lester.

According to Athletic Director Bob Johnson, the stadium fulfills an important need at the College while maintaining a sense of tradition at the College.

To date, more than $3.5 million has been donated toward the $4.5 million campaign. Support has come from alumni as well as a large number of friends of the institution.

E&H head football coach Don Montgomery said the new stadium as well as the enthusiasm for supporting it have impressed him greatly. "The alumni rose to the challenge in honor of Coach Fred Selfe to begin construction on this project in less than a year, and I have never seen that happen in any other place I have worked," he said.

The Fred Selfe Stadium is used for men's and women's soccer, football and intramural sports.
