Although many Emory & Henry college students are back home for the summer, its fitness center remains an active campus location.
Open in the summer months Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Emory & Henry’s King Center and pool area is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and their families. Access to the King Center and pool is also available to the community for a small fee.
Workers and lifeguards are present in the facility throughout the day to ensure safety and to provide assistance and instruction when needed.
“We have a many workers available to ensure the safety of the people who use the King Center,” said facility coordinator Josh Wellenhoffer.
Numerous faculty and staff members take advantage of the fitness center and pool, as well as student workers, who incorporate workouts into their daily routines. “As an employee it is convenient to have the King Center close by so I don’t have to travel far to get fit,” said Jessica Hawks, E&H application coordinator.
Student athletes benefit from having access to the fitness center in the summer to train and prepare themselves for the upcoming sports seasons. “Having access to a facility like the King Center is beneficial to me because it gives me the opportunity to become a better player while also training with my teammates,” said football player Adrian Jordan.
The fitness center also includes a racquetball court and dance studio. The facility is also used throughout the summer for basketball and football athletic sports camps.
