The Vice President for Business and Finance is responsible to the President for supervising the business office, print shop, physical plant, retail operations and human resources. The Vice President for Business and Finance administers and manages the college finances, accounting and facilities operations. He provides for linkage among accounting, budgeting, and college planning; reviews and drafts contracts; manages the cash flow of the college; and manages the investment of endowment and other college funds. He represents the college regarding insurance issues; directs and leads purchasing and retail services operations; develops and prepares budgets and financial analyses to assure current reporting status for decision making; and prepares routine and special reports to provide sound budget and financial decisions.
Prior to being named Vice President for Business and Finance at Emory & Henry in 2008, Dirk Wilmoth had served as chief financial officer at several colleges in North Carolina including Pfeiffer College for four years, Montreat College for fourteen years and McDowell Technical Community College for one year. He has had additional higher education experience in the areas of Information Technology, Advancement, and Student Residential Life. He obtained his B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from UNC – Chapel Hill, a Master’s of Science Degree in Education from the University of Rochester, and a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester. Dr. Wilmoth has been actively involved in a number of professional, education, and church-related activities, including secretary/treasurer of Presbyterian Home for Children in Black Mountain, North Carolina, advisory council member for the Association for Presbyterian College and Universities Risk Management, church school teacher, church Christian education committee chair, and church lay leader. He lives in Emory with his wife Kathryn. The couple has six children.
