The 1912 Gallery at Emory & Henry College will present “BLEND: Emory & Henry Art Faculty Biennial 2011” from Feb. 26 through April 2.
This exhibition will display new works created by the E&H studio faculty during the last two years. The studio artists are Gretchen Batcheller, who is currently serving as visiting chair of the department; Birdie Boone; Perry Johnson; Lee Jones; Anna Nenonen and Michael Wright.
The Artalk for this exhibition will be held in the Board of Visitors Lounge in the Van Dyke Center on Monday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 pm. Each artist will present a slide presentation and discuss his or her work. Following the Artalk the audience will be invited to visit The 1912 Gallery for a reception and an opportunity to speak to the faculty members and view their work.
In this exhibit the audience will see the intermingling of the focus of each artist; Batcheller and Johnson are oil painters, Boone a ceramist, Nenonen a painter and printmaker, Wright a photographer, and Jones a digital artist. When displayed together, elements of their heterogeneous work will blend to form an integrated whole.
The 1912 Gallery is located on campus, just one mile from I-81 at Exit 26 in the restored Emory train depot. The exhibition is free and open to the public from noon until 5:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment. For more information, contact Marilyn Hower at 276.944.6866 or mhower@ehc.edu.
