Alumni Invited to Enjoy Rhythm and Roots Celebration

Emory & Henry is throwing a party for alumni and friends on Friday, Sept. 16, during Bristol’s annual Rhythm & Roots Reunion.

The event will be held at 14 Bank Street (just off State Street near KP Duty). The event will feature music by E&H alumni as well as food and beverages. Among the performers will be Annabelle’s Curse.

As part of its 175th anniversary celebration, Emory & Henry is taking on a large presence during the 11th annual Rhythm & Roots Reunion, which runs Sept. 16-18. The College will sponsor a stage for the event – The CJ & Company Stage on Sixth Street – as well as numerous bands featuring E&H alumni musicians.

Those bands and musicians include the Whitetop Mountain Band, including 2007 graduate Martha Spencer; These Undowners,  featuring Clay Pruitt of the Class of 2001; Annabelle’s Curse, which includes Zack Edwards (a current E&H student)  and Tim Kilbourne of the Class of 2008; and Mountain Park Old Time Band, which features Dr. Mark Handy of the Class of 1986.

The first 50 alumni to contact Monica Hoel or  Ryan Roorda on Facebook will receive a free one-day pass (Only one ticket per person) to attend Rhythm & Roots.

Emory & Henry has labeled the weekend “Rhythm and Touchdowns,” with hopes of encouraging alumni to participate in the alumni party in Bristol on Friday and attend the football game between Emory & Henry and UVA-Wise the following Saturday. The game begins at 6 p.m. on the campus in Wise, and the tailgate tent will be open at 3:30 pm.
