Concert: David G. Smith, guitar

David G. Smith was born in Bowling Green, Ky. and spent most his life growing up in Kannapolis, N.C. A graduate of University of North Carolina at Charlotte's music and philosophy programs he first began his college career studying mechanical engineering. Currently, he is completing a Master of Music in trumpet performance in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University and working as adjunct faculty at Emory & Henry College. He has participated in several classical guitar competitions regionally and internationally, achieving semifinals at the Music Academy of North Carolina in 2011 and finals in the Appalachian State Concerto/Aria Competition in 2012. David has played in both rock and jazz band settings. After completing his work at Appalachian State his plans are to perform freelance, compete and pursue higher education for teaching opportunities.
