E&H Names New Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

A former president for Virginia Intermont College has been named the associate dean for academic affairs and the coordinator of the Powell Resource Center at Emory & Henry College.

Michael Puglisi, a former history professor at Emory & Henry, began working at the College in his new role on July 1.

He has held teaching positions at several other institutions and served as the former associate dean at Marian College in Wisconsin and former vice president for academic affairs at Virginia Intermont. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from James Madison University and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in history from The College of William and Mary.

His academic interests have focused on such topics as the African American community in Washington County, Va.; the native Americans of New England; and culture and transition in New England.

Puglisi has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations including membership on the Board of Directors for the Virginia College Fund, service as an onsite evaluator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and membership of the Bristol Tennessee/Virginia Rotary Club.
