Emory & Henry student and employees gathered Wednesday on the lawn of Memorial Chapel to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, during which the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Many members of the E&H community created signs stating what they symbolically were marching for on this historic day. The program included a rebroadcast of the full speech along with the mesmerizing performance of "How I Got Over," which was performed by Mahalia Jackson at Lincoln Memorial just before Dr. King spoke.
Each January, Emory & Henry hosts a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration. The event seeks to raise awareness about the value of diversity and increase understanding of differences.
