Emory & Henry College will celebrate the annual Leidig Lectureship in Poetry Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12 at 7:30 p.m. in The Board of Visitors Lounge in Van Dyke Center.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is featured as one of the continuing events in the Emory & Henry College 175th Anniversary Celebration.
The lecturer will be Martin Espada, author, editor, or translator of seventeen books, including his most recent collection of poems, The Trouble Ball (2011). His 1996 collection, Imagine the Angels of Bread, won the Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award, while his 2006 volume, The Republic of Poetry, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
The recipient of two NEA Creative Writing Fellowships, he has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He currently teaches at the University Massachusetts at Amherst.
