Classroom Lecture Sample: The Art of Analyzing Partisan Campaigns
Board of Visitors Lounge, Van Dyke Student Center
This lecture by political science professor, Dr. Joe Lane, takes a peak inside the Emory & Henry Course on Parties and Elections in the United States. How do political professionals make sense of too much data, an increasingly partisan electorate, a volatile media environment with a twenty-four hour news cycle, and uncontrollable outside organizations willing to spend millions on advancing their interests? It's an art of balancing competing imperatives, gathering tons of purportedly scientific data, and then ignoring most of what we think we know and slighting what we profess to value. Let's talk about why and whether this process is as bad for us as we sometimes think it is.
10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
