Jessee Takes Her Style Across the Globe

Sherri Jessee can be caught doing hair for celebrities like Nancy O’Dell, makeup for exotic models at photo shoots, and teaching hair and make-up techniques in seminars all over the world. And if you’re really lucky, you just might catch her at E&H Homecoming.

Jessee (’92) is an E&H education major, and is using her career to educate, just not in the manner some might have expected.

Jessee has a career in the beauty industry that is turning heads, in more ways than one.  She has an intercoiffure salon in Bristol, Virginia, but be sure to call and make your appointment before she travels to Australia, Italy or India.

As a member of the creative team for Rusk hair care products she is often asked to conduct classes in hair styling all over the world. Recently, Rusk made plans to expand their international business into India, and Sherri was one of only two stylists invited to participate in the glitzy premier and styling seminars. 

Jessee was interviewed by Estetica (a magazine for hair professionals) about the event which took her to New Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Bangalore. 

“We noticed subtle differences, in both food and fashion from one city to another, but adjusting our cutting techniques according to the requirements of the models to suit the local culture was not such a problem,” said Jessee. “Luckily, we were able to be the most creative with cuts and colors in our final stop in the city of Bangalore.”

One particular cultural challenge was hair length. In her interview with Estetica, Sherri explained, “Women in India wear their hair VERY long. The challenge was for us to create looks that suited the Indian women incorporating our methods, tools, products, and services. I was asked to incorporate my special up-styling techniques using Rusk products in a segment of each show.”

Jessee has more than 20 years of experience in hair, makeup and fashion editorial work. She has been featured in major magazines like Cosmopolitan, OK!, and Beauty Entertainment. And she has been featured on FOX news and MTV Style, and is a frequent guest on local morning show, Daytime Tri-Cities. Sherri Jessee’s name can also be found on a privately labeled line of quality hair care products.

Next time you’re waiting for your trim or color don’t flip so idly through those magazine, if you look carefully, you just might find a fellow E&H grad quoted there!
