A member of the Housekeeping Staff in the Facilities Department for Emory & Henry College was recently honored by her fellow employees as the July recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.
The recipient, Connie Collins, has served the College for six years. Collins was nominated by a student, and during the awards ceremony several stories of her dedication to the students were shared. One story in particular spoke about a moment where a student was unable to leave for a break, and upon finding out that the student had no food, Collins purchased drinks, snacks, and frozen dinners that could be fixed in the microwave for her so she would not be hungry.
The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.
Several of her co-workers were quick to point out that Collins is a hard worker who takes pride in what she does on a day-to-day basis.
“I really appreciate the honor, but everything I do is to help the students,” said Collins. “I’ve got two girls of my own, and I just treat these girls like I would my own.”
When asked about the importance of the Blue & Gold Staff Award, President Reichard said, “It’s so important to me that we support all of our employees. The quality of the learning environment here at the College is very dependent on the work of the staff. They influence our students in a multitude of ways, and it’s so important that we provide support to them.”
If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
