The Mayhem Poet's unique approach to the spoken word has landed them in feature spots on shows like the "Today Show" and "Eyewitness News." The group was awarded 1st place and a $100,000 grant in 2006 at the Microsoft idea Wins Challenge. Since then they've been touring internationally, collaborating with the likes of hip legends KRS ONE, Greg Patillo (beat box flute) and Jane Hunt (violin).
The Mayhem Poet's are theater trained, gifted in comedy, lyrical virtuosos who seamlessly blend raw elements of hip hop, theatre, improv and standup comedy to tell gut wrenching truths that leave audiences forever changed.
Their latest CD, Reverse Birth was hailed as one of the top spoken word CD's of 2007 by about.com's poetry section. Their NYC based educational training operation Slam Chops is providing opportunities for aspiring poets of all ages.
This performance of slam poetry is sponsored by the Emory Activities Board, and it promises to reshape your view of poetry and expose your mind to fresh views on issues, both historical and contemporary.
