A 5.9 earthquake was reported in Virginia at approximately 1:50 p.m. this afternoon (8/23). The epicenter was located 27 miles east of Charlottesville and national media reports indicate tremors were felt as far away as Boston, MA. While local reports from on and off campus include reports of residents experiencing tremors for about 15 seconds, no reports of damage or injury have been reported to the College.
Students, employees, and community members are asked to be aware that this has occurred and that aftershocks are possible.
Campus residents are encouraged to report any damage to Campus Police/Security at x6222.
