Memorial Chapel Thursday, October 10, 7:30pm
A presentation that combines the talents of two perennial favorites of Emory & Henry College audiences will be held in Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Liz Frazer, soprano and former E&H faculty member, and Lisa Withers, piano and current faculty member, will come together again in this recital that begins at 7:30 p.m. and features chamber music and art songs.
The two will perform art songs written by living, contemporary composers, including William Bolcom, Gabriel Kahane, and Libby Larsen. Their previous performances together have been hailed as informative and exciting by E&H audiences.
Frazer, an active recitalist, soloist and master class technician, was featured in Holterfest 2012, a chamber music series in northern Italy. She has performed many operatic roles, including Lia in Debussy’s “L’enfant prodigue,” Abigail in Robert Ward’s “The Crucible,” Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s “Dialogue of the Carmelites,” Elisa in Mozart’s “Il re pastore,” and Iolanthe in Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanthe.”
She was hailed in a review by Classical Voice of North Carolina for singing “with great power and emotional depth…easily soaring over the orchestra.”
Frazer earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance at University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2012. Since then she began the position of director of music ministries at Soapstone United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C.
Withers is associate professor of piano and music and has served Emory & Henry as chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts and the Department of Music. She is also an active performer, lecturer, collaborator and teacher.
She has presented recitals, master classes and workshops throughout the eastern, southern and mid-western United States.
Students, faculty and staff of the college are admitted free of charge. For all others, the advanced reservation is $10 and $8 for individuals over 55 years or students at other institutions. Admission at the door is $12.
