The first faculty meeting of the year will feature Dr. Randy L. Swing, Executive Director of the Association for Institutional Research. His remarks are entitled: “Nudges, Switches, and Momentum: Building First-Year Success.” The first college year can be a confusing experience seemingly guided by Social Darwinism (only the strong survive). Alternatively, the first-year can be an intentionally designed foundation for student success. The good news for postsecondary faculty and administrators is that a rich research literature exists about good practices in designing a successful first year of college. With focus on faculty as “choice architects,” this presentation is an exploration of first-year student success and how change management strategies (Switch, Nudge, and Good to Great) can help colleges encourage first-year students to find and follow pathways of success.
All faculty are expected to attend. Staff members are welcome.
