Passion and Hard Work Earn Veatch Blue & Gold Award

News

An admissions counselor for Emory & Henry College was recently honored by her fellow employees as the August recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.

The recipient, Alex Veatch, has served the College since her graduation from E&H in 2010. In nominating Veatch for the award, Veatch was praised for her passion and communications with prospective students looking to make E&H their school and home.

Veatch is heavily involved in campus life, serving as a co-advisor for the Emory Activities Board (EAB), a group that helps develop some of the strongest student leaders on campus. She works closely with Student Life for various poster campaigns, including the respect posters that highlight campus diversity and the weekly activities posters that help plug in first-year students to our community.

The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.

“My love for Emory & Henry goes far beyond what I do in the Admissions Office,” said Veatch. “I want the student experience to be the best it can be, which is why I volunteer my spare time to working with the Student Life Office and EAB. Plus it allows me to build relationships with our amazing students - they are the best part of our community!”
Individuals nominating Veatch pointed out that after a long week with her responsibilities as an admissions counselor, she volunteered to come in on first-year student move-in day, and helped families move their student into his/her new room. After a long morning of moving in families, Alex then floated around campus for assistance during orientation to families and students. Rather than going home that evening to relax, she returned to help EAB run an outdoor movie for the first-year students.

When asked about the importance of the Blue & Gold Staff Award, President Reichard said, “It’s so important to me that we support all of our employees. The quality of the learning environment here at the College is very dependent on the work of the staff. They influence our students in a multitude of ways, and it’s so important that we provide support to them.”

If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
