A science support technician for Emory & Henry College was recently honored by his fellow employees as the October recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.
The recipient, Clyde Scott, has served the college for 12 years as a member of the Facilities staff while assisting the Science Division in McGlothlin-Street Hall.
The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.
Prior to coming to Emory & Henry, Scott worked for 25 years at the Westinghouse Corporation in Abingdon, Va. before retiring from there in the early 90’s.
Scott spends much of his time working with the Psychology, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry Departments. Scott helps setup labs, and is responsible for the purchase of chemicals and equipment needed by the departments. Though the job has its challenges, Scott finds his work extremely interesting.
“I love working with the kids, it makes me feel so young,” Scott said. “I love helping people, and the professors I work with are great.”
In his free time, Scott enjoys a regular golf game every Tuesday at the nearby Greenway Golf Course where he plays with past and present employees from the College. Scott also works part-time repairing refrigeration and air conditioning units.
Scott has a wife, Patty, and two children; Clyde and Hope Collins (who also works at the college).
When asked about the importance of the Blue & Gold Staff Award, President Reichard said, “It’s so important to me that we support all of our employees. The quality of the learning environment here at the College is very dependent on the work of the staff. They influence our students in a multitude of ways, and it’s so important that we provide support to them.”
If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
