Student Athletes Assist Habitat for Humanity

Student Athletes Lend Hand to Habitat for Humanity

The Emory & Henry College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) worked with Habitat for Humanity on Feb. 5 to help the local ReStore in Glade Spring, Va.

The Habitat ReStore accepts used appliances, hardware and other household items to use in their Habitat homes. The organization also sells items to the public at a reduced price. All proceeds from the sale go directly to Habitat for Humanity.  The SAAC students painted furniture, designed and painted signage for upcoming Habitat events, and helped reorganize the store.

“This event was a great success for all involved," said SAAC advisor Anna Baker. "The Student Athlete Advisory Committee strives to have an enduring and positive influence on the surrounding communities of Emory & Henry College.  Having the opportunity to volunteer at ReStore Glade strengthens our commitment to service alongside an organization that repurposes furnishings in a way that can benefit others.”

SAAC is planning to work with Habitat for Humanity again soon, this time to help with the construction of an area home.
