Voted best summer camp by Virginia Living magazine, Emory & Henry College is proud to be accepting applications for the 2013 Summer Scholars Institute scheduled for June 16 through June 21 on the campus of Emory & Henry.
Summer Scholars is a one-week residential camp for academically enthusiastic and talented rising sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth graders. This will be the first year that sixth graders are accepted.
The camp offers learning activities designed to broaden a studentâ€™s interests. Participating students will also receive a glimpse into life on a college campus.
Scholars attend daily classes with experienced instructors in E&H academic buildings, stay in a campus residence halls, and are assigned an adult counselor who will be present at all times throughout their stay.
Previous year classes have included drama/theatre, foreign language, leadership, mythbusters, science and wellness. The 2013 class list will be available soon at www.ehc.edu/summer-scholars.
Evening activities include street dances, talent shows and field activities. Students will also attend a theatre performance at the nearby Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va.
The Summer Scholars Leadership Program is also available for interested rising tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade high school students. This program is meant to provide skills and tools to aid students in becoming better prepared for leadership roles in high school and college.
The cost of camp is $500. This all-inclusive price includes room and board. A $25 discount will be offered to those who apply before May 15. A deposit of $50 is due on or before May 30. The remainder of the tuition will be due on or before June 8, 2013.
