WEHC, 90.7, Emphasizing Local, National Programming During Fall Fundraiser

News

The fall fundraiser will take place from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3.

Emory & Henry’s noncommercial college and community station, WEHC-FM, 90.7, is highlighting both its local and national programming as it conducts its spring fundraiser from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3. You can make a gift online here.

WEHC, which broadcasts from a transmitter and tower near the E&H campus, brings both a lineup of strong local programming plus Radio IQ’s national programming from National Public Radio and the British Broadcasting Company to local audiences. Local professionals and community music lovers provide the local programs, and WEHC’s partnership with WVTF out of Roanoke brings the national programming to the community through WEHC’s local signal.

The noncommercial radio station provides a wide range of increasingly popular local programming, including such shows as “30 Minute Appointment,” hosted by Dr. Mark Handy; “Poets and Writers,” which is hosted by Henry McCarthy; and “The Tim White Show,” a Sunday night feature, hosted by Tim White, who also hosts the nationally distributed PBS show “Song of the Mountains.”

“WEHC is the location for information about local music and a wide variety of local programming not available elsewhere in the region,” said station manager Richard Graves. “WEHC brings to a large section of Southwest Virginia valuable public programming that speaks to the culture, interests and issues of this area.”

Although WEHC’s national programming is provided in partnership with WVTF, it is WEHC that enables the transmission of that programming to local audiences. “Our local programs are very, very strong because of the community people who believe in our mission. We also bring Radio IQ’s national programming to listeners through the local WEHC signal We hope that listeners value this programming and will support this fundraising effort,” Graves said.
