WEHC, the noncommercial college and community station in Emory, Va. will be offering its listeners an opportunity to become informed about the candidates for the 9th Congressional District seat for this year’s November 2nd election.
The three candidates, Democrat incumbent Rick Boucher, Republican Morgan Griffith and Independent Jeremiah Heaton will participate separately on the 30-minute show, "This Conversation" throughout the month of October.
The broadcasts will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 20 with Morgan Griffith’s interview. The following week will find Jeremiah Heaton visiting the WEHC studio on Tuesday, Oct. 26. The series will finish with Rick Boucher on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
All three interviews are scheduled to air starting at 6:00 p.m. on their respective days. On Oct. 31 each 30-minute interview will be re-aired starting at 1:00 p.m. with Heaton, 1:30 p.m. with Griffith and 2:00 p.m. with Boucher.
"This Conversation" host Teresa Keller says these interviews are something you will not hear anywhere else and will serve as a great learning tool for voters.
“This is an in-depth conversation with each candidate,” Keller stated. “Voters will have the opportunity to learn more about a candidate than just what they hear in campaign commercials.”
Rick Boucher was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 and is serving his 14th term representing Virginia’s Ninth Congressional District.
House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 1994. He represents the 8th District, which is comprised of the City of Salem and portions of Roanoke County.
Jeremiah Heaton is a small business entrepreneur who also lives and works on a farm.
The show will be an open ended conversation, but the major campaign topics of environmental issues, government regulations and healthcare will be asked to each individual candidate.
The interviews can all be heard live on 90.7 FM or online through the WEHC link at the College’s website, where programming is streamed 24 hours a day. All three of the candidate’s interviews will be archived on the website starting Thursday, Oct. 21.
