The director of housing for Emory & Henry College was recently honored by his fellow employees as the June recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.
The recipient, Jimmy Whited, has served the College since September 2009 as a member of the Office of Student Life staff.
The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.
Prior to coming to Emory & Henry, Whited was employed as an area director at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., for nine years.
"It is a great honor to receive this award so early in my career here. Working so closely with my colleagues in Student Life and in Facilities Management this summer has been a great experience as we prepare the halls for opening," said Whited.
Whited is currently working on his Ph.D. in Higher Education at the College of William and Mary and preparing his dissertation proposal. He enjoys reading, traveling, and teaching his puppy, Mogli, new tricks.
"My experiences here at Emory & Henry have been fantastic thus far, and I am looking forward to many more years to come," said Whited.
When asked about the importance of the Blue & Gold Staff Award, President Reichard said, "It's so important to me that we support all of our employees. The quality of the learning environment here at the College is very dependent on the work of the staff. They influence our students in a multitude of ways, and it's so important that we provide support to them."
If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
