Emory & Henry College's Brass Ensembles, including the Trumpet Ensemble, the Brass Quintet, and the full Brass Ensemble were founded in 2003 by Dr. Matthew Frederick, the current Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Emory & Henry. These ensembles have received numerous accolades and honors, including a featured performance at a recent International Trumpet Guild conference and the trumpet ensemble is a two-time semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition. In 2008 the brass program toured in Austria and Germany, performing in Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. Alumni from the brass ensembles have gone on to careers in music education, graduate school in brass performance, and many other areas. The Emory & Henry College Brass Ensembles represent the college at all official functions and tour annually.
The Emory & Henry Concert Choir was founded in 1958 by Dr. Charles R. Davis, the choir has toured throughout the US and around the world including recent tours to New York, Chicago, Germany, Austria, and Italy. Alumni from the Concert Choir have gone on to successful careers in opera, conducting, music ministry, as well as many liberal arts disciplines. Among other honors, the Concert Choir was selected as one of the two outstanding collegiate choirs for the Virginia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference, November 2008. Professor Robert Matthews conducts the Concert Choir and was appointed as Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Emory & Henry College in 2010.
The Women's Ensemble at Emory & Henry College was founded in 2009 by Professor Christianne Roll who is the current director of the group and teaches in both the Music and Theatre departments at Emory & Henry. The group performs annually on campus and has represented the college at various public relations and institutional advancement events.
