Join Dr. Robert Cantu, a leading concussion expert, as he leads discussions dealing with the risks, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of concussion. The seminar will focus on how to keep sports safe and protect young athletes and is hosted by the Emory & Henry School of Health Sciences (SHS) and the Smyth County Hospital HealthTrust.

Emory & Henry College and the Smyth County Hospital HealthTrust will sponsor a seminar July 31 dealing with the topic of brain concussion. The seminar will be led by a leading concussion expert, Dr. Robert Cantu.

During the seminar, which will be held at 848 Stage Street in Marion, Va., Cantu will lead discussions dealing with the risks, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of concussion. The seminar will focus on how to keep sports safe and protect young athletes. 

Cantu is chief of neurosurgery and chairman of the Department of Surgery at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass. He is a nationally recognized concussion specialist and the director of Boston University’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy.

The seminar includes a session for coaches, parents and athletes from 9 a.m. to noon followed by a session for physicians and health care professionals from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The seminar will provide CME and CEU credit for qualified attendees.
