The Office of International Education at Emory & Henry College will kick-off its annual celebration of International Month on Friday, Sept. 5 with a Global Street Fair.
The event, which will showcase internationally themed arts, crafts and demonstrations, also features music from Annabelle’s Curse, a folk/rock band from Bristol, Va. that includes two E&H graduates. The award-winning Celtic band Burning Bridget Cleary will close out the night’s entertainment.
E&H students attending the fair will be eligible to win two $500 travel grants for use in one of the more than 150 study abroad programs offered in more than 40 countries.
“International programs enrich our students lives as they become engaged with other cultures, belief systems, languages and customs,” said Lauren Trotman, assistant director of international education.
Other events featured during International Month include a Study, Serve and Work Abroad Fair on Sept. 9. This event will be followed by a presentation by E&H students on the joys, challenges and benefits of international education. During this event, winners of the International Photography Contest will be announced.
On Sept. 10, Lincoln Bower, a world expert with 50 years of research on the migration of Monarch butterflies will present a lecture focused on the protection of these remarkable insects.
The following day, Jimmy Whited, director of housing and conference services at E&H, will chronicle his experience with students, faculty and staff who helped build two houses for Nicaraguan families in need.
The final event of the month-long celebration will be a presentation by Dr. Stephen Hunt (E&H Class of 1971) on the points of view, values, interests and goals of others.
