Lisa Withers, who has been teaching piano at Emory & Henry College and performing professionally for more than twenty years, will perform with vocalists Dr. Allyss Haecker and Jeremiah Downes in a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, in Memorial Chapel on the college campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The evening of vocal music, sponsored by the E&H Arts Series and Music Department, will include duets from Haecker and Downes, as well as individual repertoires from each vocalist.

Downes joined the faculty of Emory & Henry College in the fall of 2014 where he serves as Assistant Professor of Musical Theater. He will present a repertoire of theatrical music including songs by Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin, Jason Robert Brown, a set of Jimmy Webb tunes at the piano, and a medley of pieces made famous by Judy Garland.

Equally at home in the worlds of music and theater, Downes spent more than 15 years as a professional singing actor appearing on stage in leading roles, world premieres and alongside some of Broadway’s finest both in New York and regionally.

Haecker will perform her classic repertoire during the evening. She is the Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Emory & Henry College where she directs the Concert Choir and Chamber Choir and teaches voice, conducting, choral methods, and music theory. Haecker is a frequent clinician and guest conductor for district, state, and regional choral festivals and an active soloist.

Joining the faculty at Emory & Henry College in 2002, Withers has performed solo and collaborative recitals and master classes throughout the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. She has performed in several competitions and master classes and in music festivals including the French Piano Institute in Paris.
