Instrumental Spectacular to Feature a Collection of Ensembles
“It will be an exciting night of music making,” said Dr. Matthew Frederick, who will direct Instrumental Spectacular, a collection of ensembles, at 7:30 p.m. on April 23 in Memorial Chapel on the Emory & Henry College Campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by E&H Arts Series & Music Department, Instrumental Spectacular will feature a collection of ensembles performing selections from the Baroque period to the twenty-first century.
The trumpet ensemble will start the evening with Eric Ewazen's “Concert Fanfare.” The Symphonic Band will play selections that range from an Aaron Copeland transcription of "An Outdoor Overture" to a traditional concert march and other contemporary band pieces. The brass quintet, brass ensemble, and woodwind ensemble will round out the remainder of the program with selections ranging from musical theater to the Renaissance.
“This year’s Instrumental Spectacular ensemble concert is unique because of the growth of the symphonic band,” said Frederick, associate professor of trumpet and director of instrumental studies at Emory & Henry College. “We are excited to perform the wide variety of music that we have planned. With the growth of the instrumental program here at Emory & Henry, the quality also has continued to rise.”
